Sen. Bennet, Fighting Chance for Families Host Press Call Advocating for the Expanded Child Tax Credit

Today, Senator Michael Bennet joined Fighting Chance for Families in calling for a renewal of the expanded Child Tax Credit. Press interested in receiving a recording of the call can email mckenzie@fightingchanceforfamilies.org for more information.

“Last year, Congress and President Biden took a historic step to help working families by expanding the Child Tax Credit,” said Senator Bennet. “It cut hunger among families with kids by a quarter, and it cut child poverty nearly in half. It’s clear that the expanded CTC is the most significant policy for families and kids to come out of Washington in generations, and that’s why we are going to fight tooth and nail to extend it.”

“When the first round of Child Tax Credit checks went out to families in July, Democrats lifted three million children out of poverty — and our polling with Fighting Chance for Families found that a majority of voters nationwide support this program,” said Ethan Winter, a Senior Analyst at Data for Progress. “Since that first round of checks came out, support has never dipped below 58%. And among recipients of the tax credit, that support is even higher, never dipping below 72% support.”

“Looking back at 2021, I can say with certainty that the expanded Child Tax Credit was an overwhelming economic success,” said Rakeen Mabud, Chief Economist & Managing Director of Policy and Research at Groundwork Collaborative. “It not only reduced child poverty and helped millions of families, but it also served as a massive boost for the overall economy and helped strengthen a truly fragile economic recovery. We appreciate leaders like Sen. Bennet and others who are fighting to extend this critical economic lifeline.”
