FCF Celebrates New Portal for Low-Income Households to Receive Expanded Child Tax Credit

Today, the White House, the U.S. Treasury Department, and the nonprofit Code for America announced the launch of a new Child Tax Credit sign-up tool. This new online portal will simplify the filing process for families who did not make enough money last year to file federal taxes and will be mobile-friendly and available in Spanish. Additionally, DACA recipients will be able to access the Child Tax Credit through this new portal without jeopardizing their immigration status.

The Census Bureau’s July Jobs Report showed the Child Tax Credit had a “big impact” on job growth and a new economic analysis from the Niskanen Center shows an expanded credit will result in $27.6 billion in additional spending, provide support for more than 500,000 new jobs, and produce an estimated $1.9 billion in revenue for local governments.

“We are thrilled to see President Biden bolster his landmark expansion of the Child Tax Credit by enabling non-tax-filing working families to sign up for this historic benefit quickly and easily with this new sign-up tool,” said McKenzie Wilson, spokeswoman for Fighting Chance for Families. "The easier it is for working families to receive the expanded Child Tax Credit, the faster our nation's small businesses can recover from this pandemic and rebuild an economy that works for all, not just the wealthiest few. These benefits for families, communities, and the overall economy are exactly why we need Congress to make this expanded Child Tax Credit permanent."
