Build Back Better Act Must Pass Before Christmas or Expanded Child Tax Credit Will Lapse, Put 35 Million Families at Risk

One week before 35 million American families are set to receive the last of the expanded Child Tax Credit’s monthly payments, Fighting Chance for Families released the following statement from spokesperson McKenzie Wilson:

“The expanded Child Tax Credit has reduced child poverty and given parents the security they need to reenter the workforce, cover the rising costs of basics, and help strengthen and support small businesses across the nation. But if Congress doesn’t extend the expanded Child Tax Credit before Christmas, 35 million families will lose this critical income support. Allowing the expanded Child Tax Credit to expire will strain household budgets and threaten our economic recovery at a time when costs are rising.”

Fighting Chance for Families polling finds a strong majority of voters support the expanded Child Tax Credit by a +24-point margin — including Democrats by a +65-point margin, Independents by a +18-point margin, and over a third of Republicans.
